What are Bad Habits?
A bad habit is a repetitive negative behaviour pattern. Bad habits doesn’t always mean to be that of drinking and smoking, but there are many common habits which can be defined to be bad habits.
Some of them are:
• Getting distracted from the things that you should be doing.
• Spending too much time on social media.
• Spending more time gaming online.
• Ignoring physical symptoms of potential health problems.
• Coughing without covering your mouth.
• Maintaining poor posture.
• Giving out too much information to contacts you make online.
These habits might sound to be too silly to be bad habits but these habits, being for a long time can affect your mental health or physical health or both in a negative manner. Some bad habits might put you in depression, which is common among the youths now-a-days, or that might end up you in hospital if they are neglected in the early days.
It is necessary that we should decrease and if possible, eliminate these bad habits so that we can lead a better and happier life.
How I tackle my bad habits?
Well coming to tackling my bad habits, I have tried to overcome those by some simple methods, like:
• Reading books or having conversation with friends to reduce Screen timings.
• Reading some articles of interest and watching some tech videos in YouTube instead of spending time on Instagram, Facebook, and others on Smartphone.
• Taking power naps, after college hours and then work on intended work, instead of working on it just after coming from the college.
• Setting a reading goal before starting, so that I don’t get distracted and end up not completing the work.
• Contacting Doctor if there is any health issue, so that it doesn’t increase from which my work or learning can be affected.
There is a verse in Sanskrit:
उद्धरेदात्मनात्मानं नात्मानमवसादयेत् |
आत्मैव ह्यात्मनो बन्धुरात्मैव रिपुरात्मनः ||
which means ‘A man must elevate and not degrade himself using his mind. The mind is a friend of the conditioned soul, as well as its enemy’. So, at last I want to tell that, there can be any bad habit or any problem that could be big or difficult for us to solve. But at end of the day remember that, only we are the Sole master of our Soul.
